Organisational Culture Inventory (OCI)

Organisational Culture Inventory (OCI)

The Organisational Culture Inventory® (OCI) from Human Synergistics is the world's most widely used and thoroughly researched measure of organisational culture. It measures the behaviours that members believe are expected of them in order to "fit in and meet expectations" within their organisation.

The 12 Styles

The OCI measures culture across 12 behavioural styles, organised into three clusters and displayed on the Human Synergistics Circumplex:

  • Constructive styles — encouraging achievement, self-actualising, humanistic-encouraging, and affiliative behaviours
  • Passive/Defensive styles — encouraging approval, conventional, dependent, and avoidance behaviours
  • Aggressive/Defensive styles — encouraging oppositional, power, competitive, and perfectionistic behaviours

Benefits

  • Make your current culture visible and measurable
  • Reveal the gap between your current and ideal culture
  • Link culture to outcomes such as performance, quality, and engagement
  • Create a shared language and a clear target for culture change
  • Track the impact of culture initiatives over time
